Aston Martin DB2
LML/50/50 – XMC 76
1951 Aston Martin Works Team Car
Current Owner: Tom Alexander
One of two cars built by the Aston Martin Lagonda Works Racing Team for the 1951 season to a special ‘Lightweight’ specification, DP47, incorporatin all the knowledge gained from racing DB2s over the previous two seasons.
The primary objective was Le Mans, where it was one of the ‘Famous Five’ DB2s, all of which finished the race. It was raced several times over two years as a Works Entry, and was lent to a select few as a Works Prepared entry for other events.
After finishing racing it was retained by the Aston Martin Lagonda in the Experimental Department, until in 1956 eventually sold to sometime Aston Martin racer and friend of John Wyer, Anthony Heal.
At one stage it was exported to Australia where it was rebuilt by Aston Martin enthusiast Alan Puckett, to be returned to the UK by then owner Charles Williams in the 1980s. Its racing career was restarted in 1998 by the previous owner, Rowan Atkinson. It was then sold to Robert Leyba of Germany and is now raced by Tom Alexander.
